Was working yellow flag on turn 1 at GingerMan Raceway during the VSCDA
race last weekend when a pretty blue TR3 flipped and rolled in turn 2,
for no apparent reason. I heard later that the LR axle had broken at
the hub, and also that it had been recently checked with die penetrant.
Happily the driver was relatively unscathed for such a scarey looking
incident.
I've raced for over 30 years and have got to say that the R1s on my Alfa
are stickier than R-6s and the first slicks we raced. That's got to be
tough on the components. Maybe it's time to spec a tire or compound to
cut back on the traction. As I understood it, equalizing the cars by
reducing cornering traction was part of the intent in requiring treaded
tires in V/H in the first place.
