Andrew -

My recollection of mine is that there is a pin that abuts against a show
but also securing pins with springs that get inserted through the shoe and
twisted a quarter turn to secure them.

But that said - I seem to recall that not all 10" drums used the same
arrangement.

I use the hole in the drum to look at the handbrake adjusting cog as I turn
it on the backside.  Lets me see how much adjustment is in play and also
confirm that it is correctly seated when done.
