There are actually several different variations on the 10" brakes, you're
looking at the least well documented version. If someone has a parts
diagram for it, I would like to have a copy! (The SPC only lists the parts,
the illustrations are for other versions without that support pin. I'm
trying to add some of the missing illustrations to the SPC.)
The pin just abuts the shoe, and in fact holds it in alignment with the
drum. I believe there should be a little felt ring on the end (P/N 105671)
to hold a bit of lubricant at that point. If the pin rusts and wears
enough, you can get a strange "clunk" that only happens a few seconds after
you take your foot off the brakes after stopping. The worn pin lets the
shoes tilt inward, but they walk out to match the drum when you make a stop.
Then when released, fall back against the pins. Took me a long time to find
that one!
IIRC the hole was to adjust the brakes, when that same drum (same P/N) was
used on Lockheed front brakes for TR2 and early TR3. No use on a car with
Girling brakes that I've found.
I've seen a metal plug in that hole, I assume to help keep out dirt and
water, but it doesn't seem to be listed in the SPC.

The smaller brakes have a pin which comes through the shoes and is held in
place with a clip. The 10" set-up appears to have a pin which screws in
from the outside and is secured with a nut. Does this pin abut against the
shoe or should it go through ?
And while I am at it, what is the purpose of the hole in the drum? Air
flow? Cooling? Access?
