If you choose to return to positive ground -- you said "My goal is to
bring him back to his natural beauty as he was born from the factory"
-- then you will want to check the polarity of any radio or other
sound equipment in place.  These components are usually polarity
sensitive.

If you happen to have an 'original' (really dealer-installed) radio
you may find that it has a slide switch or rotating plug which can
change its polarity.
