Listers,

I am struggling with this very issue with the front side marker lamps on my
TR250.

The original bulb is rated at 2.2 watts I believe. The replacement from the 'big
three' is rated at 5 watts. Installed and inadvertently left on for several
hours will melt holes in the $12.00 lenses!! Ask me how I know....

The lower wattage bulbs are available on the web from 'Bulbs.com' although I
haven't ordered them as yet. I also need to replace the bulb sockets and bulb
harness. These are only available from Victoria British for ~$50.00 each! A very
expensive screw up!

Good idea, but please include the Lucas number and specification, so we can
see how the modern replacement differs.

Also important is the candlepower (brightness), voltage, power dissipation,
and life expectancy. I realize some of those numbers are probably going to
be hard to find for the Lucas bulbs; but they are significant factors in
doing bulb substitution.

In particular, the 'festoon' bulbs used in some TR6 license plate lights
come in power ratings from 2 watts up to 20 watts. Using a high power bulb
in this location has at least the potential for melting the lens !

In a very few locations, the size of the glass envelope is an issue as well.
Don't recall the specifics offhand, but I once tried to use a taller "panel
light" bulb and found that the glass contacted a plastic element, eventually
melting it.
