If you just put a "floating ball" type or any other magnetic compass into
your TR glovebox it will look quite smart but you can expect enormous
heading errors in use. There are lots of DC electrical wires around and lots
of "hard and soft" iron nearby which will affect the compass reading
differently when facing in varying directions.
If you intend to use the compass as a guide to the direction in which you
are heading you must buy a compass capable of being compensated for these
errors.
Simple compass adjustment is not a difficult job but can be quite time
consuming. OTOH you can carry a simple compass in the glovebox and when you
want to know the direction of anything you can take it out and use it away
from the car!
