Paul,

Are we talking about the rear window piece or the center/surrey piece of the
TR4 hardtop? The rear window wont fit well due to the curves on the 3 ...
plus there's some mounting bolts that go through the car body and secure
from the inside of the car, and the center piece, whether you have the cloth
or the metal surrey, has no attach points to a TR3 windscreen ... an adapter
would move the attachment point back .. in which case it wouldn't fit right
and you'd have to have the center piece customized to extend out to the 3
windscreen.. plus there's a lip on the cloth surrey that tucks under the
chrome top trim piece on a 4 windscreen .. if this isn't in ... air gets
under it and balloons the top up inside the car and puts a lot of strain ..
I know by having a tear in mine before and by not tucking it in good enough.
Those bolts secure the surrey to the car .. and the lip that tucks in seals
it to keep the air out.

I would highly recommend getting an original TR3 hardtop. I haven't seen a
good aftermarket personally, but they may be out there. You'll have no
problem selling the TR4 hardtop to me or just about anyone else.

Subject: alternative hardtop attachment brackets?

I've got a hardtop from a TR4 that I intend to try on my TR3 as soon as I
mount my 3's windshield (or is it windscreen?) I am aware of the different
width on these models, but, I think function is my only concern here.
Taking my lax requirements into account, I am wondering if I can devise
a more economical alternative to attachment brackets? Has anyone thought of
succeeding at this?
Thanks,
Paul Dorsey
