All sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT !!!

You've just described a sweet running little engine, why take a chance on
f-ing it up ?  Use a quality detergent oil & filter, maybe change them a bit
more often if you like ... all those other stories are for engines where if
it quits running altogether, little has been lost.
