Is it also possible the dog is worn out?  I used the crank a lot when I was
having starter problems, so much that the crank will no longer grab the ears
on the dog, so to speak.  At least thats what I think is going on since I
didn't change the motor mounts. Now that the car is repainted, I wouldn't
want to use it anyway because of the possible damage to the grill around the
opening and to the guide inside.

When I have to turn the enigine over for what ever reason, like adjusting
points or valves, I push on the fan blade.
