I just installed a plastic transmission cover on my '72 GT6. I was
replacing the original fiberboard cover which indeed still had the
fiberglass insulation stapled to it. I am quite sure the plastic cover
by itself is louder than the fiberboard. However, I used that heat
shield stuff--kinda like the under carpet stuff with a metallic foil on
one side--with 3M interior spray adhesive, and it works great. I got
the heat shield from spitbits for $30. I would avoid using the dynamat
stuff since that's intended to noise created by panel vibration, not
acoustic energy transmitted through the material itself.
