I thought this would be easy, but I got a few different responses. The best
answer for the location of the mystery 2" by 4" plates (from at least three
sources), and the one that the parts seem to fit best, is that they fit
between the bolt head and the top of the floor at the body-to-frame mount
under the seats on either side of the driveshaft tunnel. If this
description isn't good enough for anybody, let me know and I'll try to be
more descriptive.

None of the manuals show these parts, they show a normal large washer there.
But as I said, I removed similar plates from my car and they must have been
factory installed. My guess is the Triumph engineers decided they needed a
larger washer to spread the load across the floor.

The other common suggestion was that they were for seat belt mounts, but I
couldn't find any way that they fit for that (I have the two point seat
belts that mount to the driveshaft tunnel and just behind the rear door
post).

I also got several responses from people with the same question - so we've
solved several problems.

Thanks for all the help.
