Steven, your symptoms sounds like valves my friend. You can probably try a
leakdown test to confirm, but if you didnt get any increase in compression
when wet is a good indication that its valves.

John

My TR4's been short on power for a week. A dry compression test gave
these numbers starting at the front -- 125, 35, 35, 125 -- and didn't
change any wet. No indication of oil in coolant, or of coolant in the
oil. No smoke clouds, even on hard acceleration, though for a year or
so I've had some light smoke with a heavy foot. I did have some valve
recession I was wishfully blaming that smoke on, since the head hadn't
been rebuilt when I had the rest of the engine done 3 years and 28K ago.
Oddly this past week it seems to smoke *less* than it had, since I
spent more time looking for a blue cloud.

Any likely scenarios that don't involve spending the boys' college funds?
