Two ways to get the cap off. One. Hit it gently with a soft hammer from each side and it will start to rock from side to side with the blows. Then you can sort of ease it out Two. If that does'nt work drill a small hole in the cap (very gently) and screw in a self tapper. You can put the pliers/mole grips/ whatever on the screw and lever it off.
