All this talk of churchkeys and pop-tops reminds me of another way to open a
beverage bottle when one didn't have an appliance.
All you needed was a '57 Ford or whatever because, unlike today, they had
"real" bumpers.
What one would do was place the bottle on the edge of the bumper so that the
cap overhung the bumper edge. Holding the bottle with the left hand one would
smack the cap with the meaty part of the right hand and voila the cap would
separate from the bottle. The idea was to get the now open bottle to one's
mouth
before the sparkling contents were lost. It worked.
