Don't screw around and hope- just tear it down and rebuild it. Not as hard
as it looks, and it will give you piece of mind later when you're driving it
to know it is in good condition- not just "think" it is in good condition.

(After I started restoring my Herald, one friend bet another I'd start
tearing down the engine for just that reason within a week. He won the bet.)
