Here's where the problem lies, I think. North America is so damn big
that you need *more* clubs (or large numbers of regional groups,
sponsored by one or more big clubs), not fewer.

If you know of several people in your area who are into Triumphs, why
not start your own Montreal Triumph Owners' Club? (Actually, call it
the Montreal Organised Triumph Owners' Rally, and you get a nicer
acronym...). You don't need to produce a glossy magazine, or offer a
special deal on classic car insurance to be a "club". An e-mail or
single-sheet photocopied newsletter does the job of keeping club members
in touch, and all it takes to achieve the best bit of club membership -
meeting other drivers and their cars - is to arrange to meet up at a pub
once a month. All it would cost (at least for the first few years) is
a very small amount of your time, putting your newsletter together.

Here in UK, TSSC local groups are so thick on the ground that there must
be about a dozen different groups holding meetings each month within 100
miles of me. Even so, I have been toying with the idea of starting a
"North Bedfordshire" branch of the TSSC, because my nearest local group
currently meets so far away from me. 26 miles away, to be precise...
