TR6 Gearshift Anti-Rattle Spring

Last May, I replaced my broken gearshift anti-rattle spring. It broke again
after about 2 months. I have purchased a replacement, but don't want to have
to keep doing this. Is there anything that causes premature failure of
these? Is there an alternative?
