I have a similar whine in my 72 as well. Only occurs under load so I'm not
entirely sure if it's the same situation. When I asked locally about it I
was told not to worry too much if that's all it does. Not sure if that's
good advice or not but I took the car off the road to redo the interior and
planned to deal with the noise at a later date.
BTW, no clacking noise that I'm aware of.
