Rick,
I made an engine dolly out of scrap wood and some castor wheels I found
in a dumpster (hey, I've got better things to spend money on).
Get a 2X6 and make a 4-sided box that the oil pan fits inside of. On a
TR6, 6" (actually 5 1/2") is deep enough. On a TR6, the back wall of the
box has to be a little thinner than 2" to fit in between the pan and the
rear engine plate. Screw and glue it together. The idea is that the oil
pan mounting screws take the weight of the engine. On a TR6, the four
screws at the rear are 1/8" lower due to the stiffener in the pan, so, I
shaved 1/8" off the box in this area.
Just lower the engine down into the box, and you have an engine stand.
To be fancy, screw and glue the box to a 3/4" plywood rectangle, and put
a castor wheel at each corner. Now, it's an engine dolly.
The dolly makes the job of mounting the flywheel, clutch and
transmission easy, too.
            Good Luck,
                 Rick in Massachusetts
