Darrell:

My 4A's (CTC64139) measurements are not that far away from yours. I am using
165R15 on 4.5" 60 spoke wire wheels. Front springs and shocks are stock
units from TRF while at the rear are HD lever shocks rebuilt five years ago
by Apple Hydraulics. Rear springs are the "uprated" units from Moss. Fender
lip to the top of tire in front is 3 1/4" and in the rear similar
measurement is 3 3/4". Side frame ground clearance is just shy of 6". I
also have (or had), a history of swapping springs and shocks around to find
the "right" ride height and balance and am quite happy with the current
set-up. I tend to think you are putting too much emphasis on so called
period photos. Even if you must drive a good distance, try to attend a
British car show in your area to do a side by side comparison. Cutting up
springs with a hack saw or torch is a frustrating experience - don't go
there.
