A 'leaky' float, or too much pressure from the fuel pump could also cause
this; but crap in the float valve is by far the most likely suspect.
Chances are, just disassembling the valve, blowing through it, and putting
it back in will solve the problem at least for awhile.  I've had to do this
on the side of the road more than once.
