You can just replace the O ring on the plastic piece that sticks out of the
bottom of the carb.  The brass part is just trim I think.   A more permanent
fix is to put on the bottom of a carb from an MG.  Same carb but the bottom
is solid, no O ring or plastic piece to deteriorate.
