Ahah a question I can answer.. just because I was looking for the info for a
tire I had in the garage.

See: http://www.dunloptire.com/tt101_dot.html

What it boils down to is the last three digits of the DOT code are the week
01-52 of year (last digit). This week would be 24 or 25 2 assume that
since you have had the car since early 2001; that a year 0 or 1 is 1990/91.
Now if they are over 12 years old... you got a problem with the system..
:^) but I would think they would show side wall cracks at that age.

Hi List

I have one of my dumb questions.

I don't know how old the tyres on my 3 are. I've had
the car a year and a half. I think the tyres were on
the car when the previous owner bought it.

They are Michelins with lots of tread and no cracking
on the sidewalls I can see. In the 70's I had
michelins on my old 911 and when they got old the
tread seperated from the body. Those tires looked
fine till they exploded.

Is there a way to tell if they are OK?
Since this is a safety issue if there is no way to
tell I will have to pop for new tyres.

Thanks,
Alan Hodge
