No ideas, but I'm in the exact same blasted boat with my Delco
alternator. Same symptoms, same problem.

I have noticed that mine suddenly go into uncontrolled overcharging
when the engine is idling. I can stop this by shutting down power and
then restarting, but it's a temporary fix and a warning that the
alternator is about to go. This fix finally fails to work, and the
alternator burns itself out.

I have no definate conclusion to draw from this, except to suspect the
rebuilt alternators I've gotten are very poorly rebuilt. I have run
into this before. My old Honda CRX went through seven Trak Auto
starters at a rate of about 2 per year. I finally purchased a different
companies rebuilt starter, and had no more troubles for the rest of the
years I owned the car.

Any body have any good ideas as to why I am blowing alternators? This
is
an AC Delco 63 amp and I've gone through two in the span of a couple
weeks.
