Regarding the loss of a freeze/core plug from your cylinder head I would
have thought any reputable reconditioner would have replaced these as a
matter of course. If not then I would hazard a guess that the cleaning
process before and after reconditioning has weakened the bond between the
plug and the head. In the first instance I would replace the plug and try a
similar run or longer.
I would also check that the thermostat is working correctly.
