List,

Got a new fuel float/sender unit in my tank today. I'd relined the tank with
the Eastwood kit and "fixed" the float while it was out. Not one of my better
fixes as it went straight to the bottom (filled with gas) and has been there
ever since. Caused us to run out of gas on the TSD rally at VTR this
summer...that's really considered bad form to run out of gas but it happened
just yards short of the Eisenhower tunnel and a State truck gave us a gallon
of gas that got us over (through) the Continental Divide to Silverthorne where
my navigator and I did a NASCAR type pit stop and then roared through the rest
stop west on I-70 in order to get a time for that leg of the rally. Anyhow
it's fixed and I know what 1 gallon looks like on the gage so that should come
in handy.

Cleaning the tank out is one of the best things I ever did to make my 6 run
reliably and consistently...I highly recommend you do this if you ever have
the chance and I will not put any of my projects together without doing it.
It eliminates fuel contamination as a source of problems with flooding, poor
idle, poor acceleration, fouled plugs, poor starting after the engines
hot...etc. it's something I wished I'd done years ago. It's just a joy to
drive these days cause it's running so great.
