OK, guess I should have looked further before posting. I just checked my
Lucas Master Catalogue 400E (1945-60) and find the following numbers for
"control box:":
37283B/D (for Herald 1959-60; same as TR3/4 listing above from the 1962-71
catalogue)
37283D (for TR3A 1960; same as above)
37290D (for TR3A "Later" 1960; compare to above)
I suspect this pretty much confirms my theory that the two units -- 37283 and
37290 -- are completely interchangeable. Note that both are the "Lucar"
connector type as opposed to earlier TR2/3's, which used the screw-terminal
regulator. Indeed, both numbers were used on a fairly wide range of British
cars of the period. Comparing the breakdown of "subparts" of each, it appears
that the only difference really is in the "resistances": 37283A/B and 37290
A/B= 63 ohms; and 37283D and 37290D/E = 60 ohms.
Whatever THAT means.... :-)
