Glad to have you. You will not see any of the Saint Croix this trip. You
will see a bit less of the Mississippi, too.

The exact location? It will be southeast of the Twin Cities on the
Mississippi. Be assured the whole story will be available by the time of
the 2001 convention in Colorado.

I last saw your lovely city from the deck of a steamboat, nearly three
decades ago. Sue and I flew to Saint Louis in the autumn of 1973. We went
to the Transportation Museum and also took the little ball-car train to the
top of the Gateway Arch. Then we rode back up the river to Saint Paul on
the Delta Queen. Took six days. I took 500 pictures. We had delightful
stops in Nauvoo Illinois, Prairie Du Chien Wisconsin (first steamboat
landing there in many decades; they had to knock down a fence so we could
come ashore) and Winona Minnesota. The scheduled stop at Hannibal Missouri
was not to be. The Iowa River was in flood, and the extra current meant we
reached Hannibal at 10:00 PM, so we steamed on past. All itinerary items
are NCP (navigational conditions permitting) don't you know.

Before you come, see if you can still tour the Hercules Dousman house in
Prairie Du Chien. Out there on the frontier, it had indoor plumbing before
the White House.
