Chiming in from Edmonton Alberta Canada .. home of WEM (West Edmonton Mall)
or "the mall" as it is known locally. Yes it is the biggest, yes it is owned
by Triple Five Corp, (The Ghermezian Family business) no they don't grow
cranberries in it (at least not yet) and no you can't buy an lbc there, at
least not in 1/1 scale. It's home to one life size copy of the Santa Maria,
two dolphins, (used to be four but two have died in the last year) three
submarines, and a four loop indoor roller coaster that killed five people in
it's first year of operation. In it's attached hotel you can sleep in
several theme rooms including the pick-up room where you sleep in the bed of
a 1/2 ton, get married in the chapel, play golf on the roof, body surf in
the wave pool in January. In other words, it's a mega monument to the
tackier side of life.
If you watch the coverage of the World Championship in Athletics starting
August 3rd you might even get to see it! (Oh WOW!!)
In truth, most locals with an I Q above 95 avoid it.
