Bill,

If I remember correctly, that is a compression fitting. Could the threads
be cross-threaded? Check the flange and the brass compression washer or
whatever it is called for nicks. Same thing on the fuel pump exit. That
is also a compression fitting. Maybe the alloy fuel pump body has
expanded to not allow a clean compression fit.
