Will the smog guy at the local station have accurate info on engine #'s and
original equipment fitted to '74 tr6's?
I've been subscribed to this list for nearly 5 years on and off, and always
found it to be useful, but lately with all the BS going on I'm starting to
wonder...
Surely there are a few "6" owners out there who can help...

Will it fit? Yes. You will have to use the later model intake manifold.
Will the smog guy catch it? I have no idea. I don't know how extensive
the documentation at your inspection station is. It varies state to state
and station to station.
