...recently someone mentioned that they were having problems
with their clutch hydraulics on a TR4 (I think). I've been
thinking about this off and on and was wondering if it's possible
that the slave cylinder has been moved from one side to the
other of the bracket which attaches to the bellhousing. The
reason is that if the cylinder has been moved from back side
of the bracket (correct side for a TR3, don't know about 4s
though) to the front side then the pushrod may be too short.
This would require that the hydraulics be "pumped up" to disengage
the clutch. The clutch return spring (the one which goes between
the clutch bracket and the arm on the clutch operating shaft)
would eventually return the piston all the way into the cylinder
after the clutch wasn't used for a while. This would cause the
clutch to need to be pumped up again the next time it was used.

This probably isn't very clear but it's the best I can do
right now.
