I had to go to my insurance agent today (Georgia Farm Bureau) and asked him
about "classic car" policies...lo and behold, they handle Hagerty as
well. I got a copy of the questionnaire, reproduced here to the best of my
typing ability...

1. Has the original horsepower been increased or any vehicle been
modified? If yes, describe engine, approximate HP, suspension, body,
paint, interior and stereos valued more than $1000:

2. Is any collector vehicle damaged or currently being restored? If yes,
list details of the damage or restoration project; include projected
completion date of restoration:

3. Is any collector vehicle used for racing or rallying? If yes, explain:

4. Is any collector vehicle used for backup or daily transportation? If
yes, explain:

5. Is any collector vehicle used for commercial purposes (rentals,
commercial hauling, etc.)? If yes, explain:

6. Confirm that collector vehicle is stored in a fully-enclosed and locked
garage? If "no", describe its storage; be specific about security and
access (include a photo):

7. Is any collector vehicle stored at a location other than the
applicant's address? If yes, storage address:

8. Describe garage construction (frame, brick, etc.):

9. Indicate the odometer reading for all collector vehicles manufactured
from 1981 to the present:

10. If any collector vehicle is not owned by or registered to the
applicant, explain:

11. If any collector vehicle is financed or leased, indicate
lienholder/leaseholder name and address:

12. To which automobile clubs do you belong?

++++ Part 3: Limitations of use and applicant's statement

"Vehicles insured by this program will be operated on a limited basis
consistent with the operation of a collectable vehicle, such as limited
pleasure driving, club activities and exhibitions. These vehicles will NOT
be covered if used for high-speed racing or commercial purposes. All
drivers of the vehicles insured by this program will also own a regular-use
vehicle that is used for normal everyday driving such as driving to and
from work or school, errands and general transportation."

In addition, my agent said you have to have several photos and an
appraisal, don't know if a club appraisal would suffice. He also stressed
the garage aspect, which is what I don't have right now...but hope to have
soon.

So there you have it -- FWIW, my agent says Hagerty is a large company,
specializing in insuring collector vehicles, which is a small market. He
didn't have any experience with payment of a claim, though the form has
"CNA Personal Insurance" at the top next to the Hagerty logo, and CNA is a
fairly large company, IIRC.

I think you can read into the questionnaire what they are looking to weed
out, and go from there -- let your conscience be your guide...

Rates are different in every state, but in Georgia at least, it's pretty
cheap: Comprehensive/collision for $0.60 per $100.00, $41.00 for
$500,000.00 liability -- However, better get AAA if you plan to break down
a lot -- Towing and Labor cost (up to $75.00 per occurrence) is $25.00 --
these are annual costs.
