Hi Dave, The theory that the prefix digit is the year of sale is supported by my TR3a 2TS81417L. It's registered as a 62 although by its serial # it was built in late 60. Previously though I had heard somewhere that the digit specified the port of entry, but I can't imagine there being as many as 5 ports of entry into the country - 2 maybe.
