The click would indicate to me that the solenoid is functioning.

Suggest you check to see if your starter's jammed in the flywheel.  With
the car in 4th gear (& ignition off) try pushing the car backwards. 

Don't test by pushing forward since, if it is jammed, this will only
make matters worse.

If it will not move (engine will not move) then the starter may be
jammed.  The remedy is to rock the car backwards (still in 4th) hard,
again and again until you hear the starter pop free.  This may be
easiest to do by pushing on the back of the door jam and the top of a
rear tire.

Don't know if this happens on 6's, but on 3's it's so common that the
owners manual offers the above described procedure.
