Well listers,
Aside from not yet arriving home with my loot I've pretty much done all the
damage one can do to their pocket book afford to buy gas!
This morning I met Paul Oglesby at his shop and we headed out to his
family farm with my trailer obediently following behind us. Many months
ago Paul had described to me a TR3 tub and rolling frame that he "found"
sitting out at the family farm. After listening to his description of it I
decided that it would be the perfect candidate to finish off my TR3 project.
This particular tub has the outer rockers still intact and I believe the inner
sills are also. The floor boards do need a fair amount of work however.
The upper boot pan has some pin holes scattered around it but the lower
spare tire pan seems to be in fine shape. There is also some rust around the
lower lip of the spare tire opening unfortunately. Nothing that can't be
repaired however. Also the frame seems to be in excellent shape overall so
I won't need to worry about repairing the one that I currently have stored
beside the garage. The tub still has the original rear fenders still attached
and they are also in very nice condition overall. I can't seem to see any
obvious rust holes in them anyway.
Later this morning I decided to also buy a TR3 tranny with Overdrive
figuring I actually saved some money since I didn't have to pay for
shipping back to Lincoln. I have a feeling however thats the same kind of
logic your wife uses when she tells you that "honey, I saved us $30 by
buying these shoes on sale"!!
The last item(s) that I managed to come up with was a set of four almost
new 60 spoke painted wire wheels with hubs and knockoffs. I got those
from Bob Kamholtz's son Dave. I felt the price was very fair on them and
just couldn't pass them up. With just a little clean up I'll be able to mount
my tires on them and I'm that much closer to having a TR4 rolling chassis.
Needless to say, I've spent considerably more here than I planned but I
think thats pretty much how it is with these cars, its either feast or famine!
Anyway, with the addition of this TR3 tub and frame I now have (I think!)
all the parts that it should take to completely assemble a TR3. Of course
thats bound to change once I start sorting through all the parts!! This car
probably won't have any work done to it for at least two years. But its a
nice feeling to know that I now have my own "kit" car. Now if I could just
find those instructions, and that tube of glue.................................
