Earlier this week I obtained a Pertronix Ignitor from Ken Streeter in
exchange for a spare brake MC I had (thanks, Ken!).

The Pertronix unit is (I believe) a Hall effect replacement for the points
and condenser, and fits entirely under the distributor.

Thought I'd share a few observations. The model number I got is LU166.
There are 3 holes in the mounting plate, only 2 of which appear to be used.
One hole receives the locating peg on the dustributor plate, and one
countersunk hole is used to screw the unit in to the distributor, using the
former condenser mounting screw (NOT the screw used to attach the points,
as the directions would have you believe.) The holes in the Pertronix
mounting plate aren't as neat or as precisely located as I'd like. I had
to dress it down with a file to make it completely flat.

The 2 wires from the Pertronix unit have to go 180 deg. around the inside
of the distributor before exiting through the cap cut-out. Another
*really* strange thing was the size of the pre-attached spade connectors.
They were really nice, well attached connectors, which are too small to fit
the connectors on the coil. I ended up having to snip them off and crimp
on standard connectors.

So far I have *not* removed the ballast wire (I assume that's what the big
red, cloth-covered wire to the + connector on the coil is) but the car
seems to run just fine. I did have to advance the timing a fair bit from
the previous points setting. The timing is so steady I can easily read the
numbers stamped on the pulley when using the timing light.
