        I bought a TR3B a little over a year ago for about $4,500. It was 
complete and running, but needed serious work. I am into a body-off 
restoration that will probably take another two to three years to complete 
(mostly because I get to work on it no more than a few hours a month, and 
want to do all the work myself). So far I have removed the wings, bonnet and 
boot lid, rebuilt the gas tank, replaced floors and sills, and will soon pull 
the tub off the frame.
        I may have paid more than I needed to for this car, but it was 
exactly what I wanted -- a TCF series TR3B. It's rarity made it worth it, to 
me.
        I guess that's what it will come down to for you, too. There are 
examples in various states for a wide range of prices. You may never recover 
your restoration costs, but that should not be your first concern, anyway. 
Find the model you want, at a price you consider reasonable, and be prepared 
to bleed money while you get ready for the ultimate thrill putting the car 
back on the road.
        FWIW, I don't think you will find a TR in that price range that will 
be a reliable driver without some work. What do others on the list think?
