 But yu could of course get the things with od, not an option afaik with the
SD1 which was four speed and only the SDi was five speed (or the sdi had a
five speed with inproved bearings. The same tranny was used fwiw in the
Jaguar XJ6 SIII.)However, what might be of further interest, its possible to
adapt the later Jaguar tranny for use with the SIII 4.2 which might just
indicate that you could use the tranny in the TR7 and SDi as well. (this
later tranny is the GETRAG tranny and is mucho stronger than the Rover unit)

No they weren't, all P6 Rovers 2000,2200 and 3500 were either four speed
or auto,
the 5 speed came with the introduction of the SD1 around 75-76. :-)
