Just a shot in the dark but does the symptom disappear with a full
tank and re-appear when the tank runs down a bit.  It could be a
weak fuel pump.  When the tank is high there is enough head to keep
the carbs fed without a fuel pump but when the tank gets low the
pump is needed to push the gas up to the carbs.

Good luck on solving this problem.  Let us know what it was (when
you finally get it fixed.)
