Been reading the postings on this problem and I've been dredging the memory
banks in an effort to help.
Hazard switches. On early cars (pre 1970) hazard switch was a black rocker
type with a red triangle. The instrument panel repeater was in common with
the indicator pilot light, so it flashed in sympathy with the outboard
vehicle lights. Operating the hazards when an indicator was working,
overrode the indicator function. On later cars with the pull switch, the
override worked in the same way but I think the switch itself flashed
without affecting the indicator pilot. The pilot wouldn't flash.
For the lister who said his indicator pilot flickered erratically with the
turn signal switch energised, I'd be inclined to check the earth to the
bulb holder and/or the feed from the flasher unit itself. Probably corroded
terminals that a wire brush and a squirt of WD40 would fix. Hope this
