Yep, The bit about timing  pretty much applies to all internal combustion
engines.  If you have an advance unit then you disconnect and plug the
line.  With a retard unit you leave it connected- (this of course, depends
upon the manufacturers spec.)  the advance unit will have the vacuum
takeoff port on the diaphragm housing on the opposite side, facing away
from the dist. body.  If its a retard unit, then the port will be on the
housing facing, or on the same side as the dist body.  Some dizzy's have
both (like my GT6 originally came with) The ports are in the same locations
as mentioned above, but the takeoff on the manifold is either timed (for
the retard side) or non-timed for the advance side, so that vacuum is
applied only to the retard side at idle and as soon as you crack the
throttle, it is then applied to the advance side.  As cars were required to
better control emissions, things got even more and more complicated-
