For those of you that were interested in how I finally resolved my carb to
carb and carb to pump fuel line problem, here it is: As I said I was very
unhappy with the braided flexible pipe supplied by the parts people. I had
intended to cut off the captive nuts from these pipes, fit them onto a
rigid pipe as original and flare the ends, then thread them onto the banjos
supplied. I found that 8mm micro bore copper pipe was the nearest to the
correct size of 5/16 used on the original steel plumbing. After I spent
some time making up the carb to carb pipe, it seems to "work harden" which
means as you bend and tweek it to get the right shape it becomes more
brittle. When finished I still did not like the look of what I had done,
with nuts and screwed joints, it still looked wrong. So I decided to take
the original cracked pipe and cut off the banjos close to the neck, next I
ground away what I think was the brazing used to fix the pipe in place. It
would not melt with my little gas gun so it was not solder. I then drilled
out the remainder of the pipe from the neck of the banjo and cleaned it up
on my brass wheel. Finally I bent up my copper pipe to the correct length
and shape, making sure that when laid flat on the bench both facing edges
of the banjos lay flat, this would improve their chances of sealing when
screwed in place. The joints were soft soldered and the whole piece
polished up to a very pleasing finish. BY THE WAY I STILL NEED A FLOAT BOWL
LID FOR ONE OF MY H4 CARBS (THREADS STRIPPED ON MINE), CAN ANYONE HELP I
HAVE HAD NO LUCK THIS SIDE OF THE POND.
