Make sure all the fluid is out of the reservoir, put the cap back on and
GENTLY apply a bit of compressed air to the vacant hole where the brake
pipe was hooked up. This will push the piston back out of the cylinder.

Be sure to check both piston & cylinder are in good shape, have no pits,
scratches etc, before reassembling. Minor stuff can be removed from the
cylinder walls with a special brake clinder hone in an electric drill.
Only refit with new seal in place. Don't try to reuse the old one.
Before inserting the assembly, wet it with brake fluid, then carefully
put it all back together. Oh, and don't use any harsh cleaning fluids.
Only clean with brake fluid (same type as presently in the car) or
rubbing alcohol (I used my handy dandy British/English translation guide
to find out methylated spirits specified in the manual = rubbing
alcohol.

I put a bit of grease where the external plunger contacts the piston
(right under that circlip you removed). Then slip the dust cover back on
& reinstall.

Be meticulaous about this job. Even the slightest dirt can create a
problem.

You'll need to bleed the brakes. I have the TR4 manual, I think the TR6
uses a different sequence.

I just did this job & MC came out great. I didn't follow my own advice &
tore one of the dust covers at a caliper, however. Anyone have a spare?
I hate to buy a complete rebuild kit ($30) for a single dust cover. Moss
& Brit Vic don't sell dustcovers individually.

Good luck.
