Though I had the later slot-head screws there, I likewise could not remove
them. Actually, after a lot of work with pentrating fluid, a large
screwdriver, and an impact driver, one did come out. I spent Three Weeks at
it and in the end took a large drill bit (~9/16"?) and drilled off the
heads. The stanchions then just about fell off. I couldn't understand why I
didn't do it sooner. Your setup may differ a bit being Dzus fasteners, but
you'll feel great once they're out of there. Just drill slowly; you even
have a nice hole to centre your bit. In my case, the remaining part of the
screw could be grabbed with vice-grips and they turned right out with no
difficulty at all.
Here's something NOT to do: Now that you have the one out, it can be
tempting to try to loosen the second one on that side by rotating the
stanchion (assuming the frame is out from between them first). This will
bend the body metal quite effectively. I'm not just guessing about this...

Hello all,
I'm trying to remove the windshield from my TR3B --- it's the last thing on
the car. I've been trying for a couple of weeks and can NOT get the dzus
screws to budge. I've soaked them repeatedly with PB Blaster, used large
screwdriver, used an impact driver. Only one of the four will move. Any
tips out there on what I can try next? I don't mind sacrificing the screws
themselves in the process of removal, but the chrome bezels are in nice
shape and I want to protect them.
