Don't give in to the "just buy new ones" crowd now!
But I wouldn't punch them (the pistons that is); they're delicate.
(Well, maybe gently, with a piece of wood, after other things fail...)
Mine were seized too and I eventually got them out. They were NOT
ruined, and ARE still quite useable.
You could find an appropriate container and submerge them in kerosene
or similar for a few days. Then, if that hasn't worked, maybe you
could warm up the outer part with a propane torch, and then "push" the
piston down using a wooden dowel or similar.
Once they're out clean up the inside of the dashpot and the outside of
the piston; the small gap between them apparently is calibrated, so no
emery cloth is allowed. (Acetone? I've heard it's a good cleaner...)

Dear Listers,
I have 2 old SU's with siezed pistons. I have disassembled everything else,
and applied penetrating oil (which disappears thru the joint within a few
minutes), but they won't budge.
Can I force them out with a punch inserted in the dashpot hole, or might I
end up destroying something?
