Hi, Richard.

On the face of it, the prime suspect is fuel. However, if the car starts OK
and the mixture seems right, could it be ignition?

I'd check that the ignition is not only timed but is also advancing with
engine speed. Similarly, is the coil producing a good. meaty spark under all
conditions? If feeble, the spark could be breaking down under compression,
especially at high revs when in thrash mode.

Hope these suggestions help.

Cheers,

Dave Hill.
