Hood Webbing

When I bought my TR6 it had a new hood that the DPUCS (...Used Car
Salesman) proudly informed me he had installed himself. Why don't I ever
learn to pick up on these things?

He had used the old webbing (those two strap thingies) and glued it to the
hood frame bows. Since it was in bad shape, apparently there was not
enough to go from front to back, so he kind'a pieced it in. On the
driver's side it goes from the middle bow back and on the passenger's side
it goes from the back bow to the middle bow, and from the from bow to the
header rail. (I think that's right, but you get the idea.)

What purpose do these straps serve and do I have to remove the whole hood
to replace them? And I guess I'm asking if it is worth it. Seems to
function fine, just looks like @#*&*#!

TIA

Michael, St. Louis
