I would have thought a properly installed helicoil would be fine, in this
application. I've got some in my valve train, which takes more torque than a
bleeder screw.

And, as for the ball bearing trick, I've come across bleeder valves that
were designed this way. (Can't remember if it was Mazda, Toyota, Fiat,
Triumph, or Pontiac, though.)
