if i may make 2 assumptions here, one is that you don't have an 
electronic ignition system.  (you have points etc) the other is that you 
have not taken off the distributor cap and dried it out.  try that first 
before you assume the beast is doomed

It has been raining out west here far more than normal. I got caught out
in it last monday night. The water got into the engine compartment and I
can not get my '79 TR7 to idle. It starts with some difficulty, and will
run, I sat in it and let it reach normal temperature, that made no
difference, and it will not idle, when you release the accelerator it
dies. Any Ideas as to the cure?
